Jaipur: Police in Rajasthan’s capital have launched a search operation after two Japanese tourists were reported missing from the Ashok Nagar area of Jaipur, officials said on Tuesday.

According to Ashok Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Moti Lal Sharma, a missing persons report was filed by the driver of a taxi hired by the two foreign nationals. The tourists had arrived in Jaipur from New Delhi and checked into a local hotel on February 7.

The SHO said the taxi driver dropped the two men at a restaurant in the Ashok Nagar locality on the night of February 7. However, they failed to return to the vehicle or contact the driver thereafter.

“The driver waited for them until the morning of February 8, but there was no response from the tourists. They also did not return to their hotel. Following this, the driver approached the police and lodged a missing persons complaint,” Sharma said.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to trace the movements of the tourists. Efforts are also being made to gather additional information from the hotel and nearby establishments as part of the investigation.

Further inquiry into the matter is currently underway, officials added.
