Amritsar: In a major intelligence-led crackdown under the ongoing anti-gangster drive Gangsteran Te Vaar, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module and arrested five accused involved in the illegal network, officials said on Monday.

During the operation, police recovered six sophisticated pistols, 10 live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin and ₹11.90 lakh in drug money from the possession of the accused. The seized items indicate the scale and seriousness of the smuggling activities allegedly being carried out by the group.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were actively linked to a cross-border smuggling network and were involved in trafficking illegal weapons and narcotics. Police said the accused were operating as part of an organised module with suspected links extending beyond the border.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Senior officers said both forward and backward linkages of the network are being thoroughly investigated to identify handlers, suppliers and intended recipients.

Police officials said the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, allowing teams to act swiftly and prevent the circulation of illegal arms and drugs that could have posed a serious threat to public safety.

Punjab Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on organised crime and narco-terror networks. Officials said such sustained operations are part of a broader strategy to curb drug trafficking and ensure peace and security across the state.

Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses, police added.
