Jaipur: A tanker transporting chemicals caught fire on the Jaipur–Ajmer highway early Monday morning, prompting swift action by police and fire officials. No injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident.
According to police, the fire broke out at around 4.45 am when the 12-wheeler tanker, carrying methyl-based chemicals, was travelling from Ajmer towards Jaipur. Sparks were noticed near the tyres of the moving vehicle, which quickly ignited a fire in the lower section of the tanker.
Passersby who spotted the flames immediately alerted the driver, who stopped the vehicle and managed to jump out in time to save himself. The situation could have turned dangerous due to the chemical load, but timely intervention helped avert a major mishap.
Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information, and fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze. After sustained efforts, firefighters succeeded in dousing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading further.
Authorities said traffic movement on the highway was briefly affected as a precautionary measure during the firefighting operation. Further assessment of the tanker and the cause of the sparks is underway.
