Tarn Taran: Panic and shock gripped a private law college located in the Usma village of Tarn Taran district on Saturday after a male student allegedly shot a fellow female student dead inside the college campus before turning the gun on himself. Both students died on the spot, triggering chaos among students and staff present at the time of the incident.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sandeep Kaur, aged 20, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan, while the accused has been identified as Princeraj Singh, a resident of Mallian village. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred inside the college premises when the accused suddenly opened fire at the woman student. She sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died instantly.

Eyewitnesses said that moments after shooting the woman, the accused student shot himself, ending his life. The sudden violence led to panic inside the campus, with students and staff running for safety. The college was immediately thrown into a state of emergency following the incident.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot along with a heavy police force after receiving information about the shooting. The bodies of both students were taken into custody and sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination. Police recovered the firearm used in the crime along with empty bullet cartridges from the scene, while a forensic team was deployed to collect evidence. The entire college campus was sealed as part of the investigation.

Anguished family members who reached the college questioned the lack of security arrangements, alleging that there were no checks to prevent a student from entering the campus with a weapon. They claimed that the family was initially informed that the girl had been injured in a minor altercation, and her condition was downplayed. It was only later that they learned she had been shot.

The victim’s family said Sandeep Kaur’s father had passed away earlier, and she was supporting a family consisting of six sisters and a younger brother. They demanded strict action against the college administration for alleged negligence and lapses in campus security.

Sandeep Kaur’s mother, Harjinder Kaur, said the family had no prior knowledge of any dispute involving their daughter. She said Sandeep had left home normally in the morning and there was no indication of any problem. According to her, a teacher later called to inform them that their daughter was seriously injured and asked them to reach the college immediately. When she arrived, she found her daughter had already died and later learned that she had been shot by a student and that a pistol had been recovered from the campus.

Police officials said the matter is being investigated from all angles and further details will emerge after the post-mortem and forensic analysis.
