Salalah: The Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini has successfully completed her maiden port call of the global expedition Lokayan 26 at Salalah in Oman, marking an important step in strengthening maritime cooperation between India and Oman.

The visit, which concluded on February 5, forms part of the vessel’s ten-month trans-oceanic journey designed to project India’s seafaring traditions and the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, underscoring unity and shared heritage across nations connected by the seas.

During the stay, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini held interactions with senior officials of the Royal Navy of Oman, including Captain Mohammad Al Ghailani, Commander of the Southern Naval Area, and Captain Mohammad Al Mahari, Commanding Officer of RNO Vessel Al Moazer. Discussions focused on historic maritime linkages between the two countries and avenues for enhancing professional cooperation and mutual understanding between the navies.

As part of naval diplomacy, officers from the Royal Navy of Oman were welcomed onboard for a detailed walkthrough of the ship, offering insights into sail training practices and the operational aspects of the three-masted barque.

The port call also witnessed strong public engagement. The ship was opened to visitors, attracting over 600 people, including students, who explored the vessel and learned about traditional navigation, ocean sailing and life at sea, reflecting a vibrant people-to-people connect.

With her stopover in Salalah concluded, INS Sudarshini has set sail for the next phase of Lokayan 26, continuing her voyage as an ambassador of India’s maritime legacy, goodwill and enduring friendship with nations along her route.
