New Delhi — The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its official candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.

The decision was finalized after a meeting of senior alliance leaders, who unanimously backed Radhakrishnan’s candidature. His name will now be formally proposed when the nomination process begins.

Radhakrishnan, a veteran political figure, has been serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since 2023. Known for his organizational skills and long association with national politics, he is considered a strong choice to represent the ruling alliance in the Vice Presidential race.

The Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament. The election process is expected to be announced soon by the Election Commission of India. If elected, Radhakrishnan will succeed the incumbent and assume office for a five-year term.

With the NDA holding a clear majority in Parliament, Radhakrishnan’s candidature is being viewed as a decisive step toward securing the Vice P

residency.
