Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a special sub-committee of experts to address the growing misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in creating objectionable videos and digital content that allegedly hurt the dignity and religious sentiments of Sikhism.

The decision follows a resolution passed by the SGPC’s executive committee, after noting a steady rise in AI-generated content circulating on social media platforms that is considered offensive to Sikh beliefs and traditions. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami approved the formation of the expert panel to devise legal and technological measures to curb such material.

Sharing details, SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh said that videos and other digital content produced using AI tools and targeting Sikh sentiments have increased significantly in recent times. In view of this, the executive committee decided to form a dedicated sub-committee comprising legal experts and professionals with experience in AI and internet technologies.

The newly formed panel includes Dr Harjinder Singh Sandhu from the United States, Harmit Shah Singh from the United Kingdom, Dr Sarabjot Singh from the UK, Dr Sarpreet Singh of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Gurpal Singh of Khalsa College, Patiala, Dr Jagdeep Singh Mallhi of Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, and Dr Satinderpal Singh, also from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana. SGPC System Administrator Karmveer Singh has been appointed as the coordinator of the sub-committee.

Pratap Singh said the panel will work towards identifying and countering AI-driven content that maligns Sikh religious values on social media. He added that the sub-committee will also establish communication with leading AI technology companies to explore mechanisms for monitoring, reporting, and preventing the spread of such content.

The SGPC has maintained that protecting the sanctity of Sikh religious symbols, beliefs, and traditions in the digital space is a priority and that appropriate steps will be taken to address emerging technological challenges.
