New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, providing him major relief in the case registered against him by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. The top court allowed Majithia’s bail plea after hearing arguments in the matter and did not accept the objections raised by the Punjab government.
Majithia has been lodged in Nabha’s new jail since June 25, 2025, following his arrest by the Vigilance Bureau from his residence in Amritsar. He was taken into custody in connection with an ongoing investigation, after which he remained behind bars for several months.
The apex court’s decision comes as a significant development in the politically sensitive case, with Majithia’s legal team arguing that continued incarceration was unwarranted. With the grant of bail, the senior Akali leader is expected to walk out of jail after completing the required legal formalities.
The Punjab government has not yet issued an official response to the Supreme Court’s order.
