New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday defended the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, stressing that the exercise is being conducted in a transparent and non-discriminatory manner.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, addressing a press conference, said the Commission treats both ruling and opposition parties as equal before the law. He clarified that the revision aims to correct shortcomings in the voter list and strengthen the integrity of the electoral process.

“As many as 28,370 individuals have submitted claims and objections over the draft rolls in Bihar,” Kumar said, adding that booth-level officers and agents are working together to ensure transparency.

He urged all political parties to actively participate in the process, noting that 15 days remain for submitting claims and objections.

Responding to criticism from some quarters, the CEC expressed concern over what he called misinformation being spread about the revision. “The fact remains that all stakeholders are working to make the Special Intensive Revision a success in a transparent manner,” he said.
