Chennai: A minor fire was reported at the city airport on Tuesday, triggering brief concern but causing no damage or disruption to flight services, officials said.

According to preliminary details, a spark led to smoke inside a staff canteen located in the international departure area of Terminal 2. Airport authorities responded promptly, and the situation was brought under control without any escalation.

Officials clarified that air traffic movement remained normal throughout the incident. No flights were delayed or cancelled due to the fire.

A senior airport official said the fire occurred near the airlines’ offices area at the T2 departure zone, where some documents were stored. “The fire has been fully controlled and no flight operations were impacted. The next scheduled departure from Terminal 2 at 2.35 pm will operate as planned,” the official added.

Authorities said the exact cause of the spark is being examined, while stressing that passenger safety was not compromised at any stage.
