Patiala/Nabha: The murder of Punjab Police head constable Amandeep Singh, a resident of Pudda Colony in Nabha, has triggered widespread outrage, with his family refusing to allow the postmortem and last rites until all accused are arrested.
Amandeep Singh was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by unidentified assailants late Sunday. His brother Navdeep Singh also sustained injuries in the attack. The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, especially as the victim was an active police personnel who was scheduled to participate in the Republic Day parade on January 26.
Patiala Superintendent of Police Jasvir Singh, after inspecting the crime scene, said multiple police teams have been formed to crack the case. He stated that crucial evidence has been collected and assured that the accused would be arrested soon. The police later briefed the media during a late-night press interaction, confirming that the suspects have been identified.
According to the police, the identified accused include Aashish alias Aashi, Sarv Kumar, Rikki, son of Raj Kumar, and Rikki’s son, residents of the Balmiki Mandir area near Bowran Gate in Nabha. Some other unidentified youths were also involved in the crime.
The victim’s family said Amandeep Singh was married and is survived by a young child. Expressing anguish and anger, family members questioned the safety of common citizens if police personnel themselves are not secure. They demanded immediate arrests, stating they would not allow the postmortem or cremation until justice is assured.
Meanwhile, Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma confirmed that two accused have already been arrested, while efforts are underway to nab the remaining suspects. He revealed that the murder stemmed from a dispute over money between the accused and the deceased, which escalated into a fatal attack.
A case has been registered at Kotwali Police Station under Sections 103, 109, 191(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, based on the statement of the victim’s father, Rajinder Singh. Further investigation is ongoing.
