Narsingdi (Bangladesh): A 25-year-old Hindu youth, identified as Chanchal Bhowmik, was burnt alive after a fire broke out in a garage where he was sleeping in Bangladesh’s Narsingdi district on Friday night, raising suspicions of foul play.
According to local police, the fire originated inside the shop where Bhowmik was resting. CCTV footage from the area has revealed the presence of a person moving around near the site shortly before the incident, prompting investigators to examine the possibility of external involvement.
Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Faruque told ANI over the phone that authorities have collected and reviewed CCTV recordings from nearby cameras. “We have observed footage showing a person moving around the area. We are investigating whether the fire was caused by an external factor or an electrical fault,” he said.
The police official added that firefighters had to break open the shutter of the shop to reach the victim. By the time rescue teams gained access, Bhowmik’s body had been completely charred.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. Officials said all possible angles, including deliberate arson, are being examined.
