Sukhbir Badal Urges EC to Act Against Manish Sisodia, Seeks Cancellation of Bail

Chandigarh – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has urged the Election Commission of India to take immediate action against former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for allegedly attempting to incite violence in Punjab. He also demanded cancellation of the bail granted to Sisodia in a corruption case, citing “provocative remarks” recently made by the AAP leader.

Referring to a video clip of Sisodia circulating in the public domain, Badal alleged that the AAP leader encouraged party workers to resort to lies, false promises, bribery, and even violence to win the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. He said such rhetoric could “vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the State” unless the Election Commission intervened.

“The Election Commission should direct the registration of a criminal case against Sisodia. Since Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was present when these remarks were made, it is unlikely the AAP government will act against him. The Commission should also recommend cancellation of his bail, which is being misused to continue corrupt practices,” Badal said.

He further appealed to the Commission to consider debarring AAP from contesting the 2027 Assembly elections in Punjab, stressing that the State had already endured over a decade of militancy before peace was restored under leaders like Parkash Singh Badal.

Accusing AAP of pushing Punjab towards “anarchy and communal violence,” the SAD president also linked the rise in sacrilege incidents to the party’s entry into Punjab politics in 2014. “Never before had such sacrileges against Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji taken place. The conviction of AAP’s former Delhi MLA Naresh Yadav in the sacrilege of the holy Koran in Malerkotla is proof that AAP conspired to destabilize Punjab,” he alleged.

Badal demanded that the Election Commission recommend an impartial probe by a central agency into the alleged connection between AAP’s rise in Punjab and sacrilege incidents.
