Amritsar: Just days before Republic Day, the Punjab Police have foiled a major terror conspiracy with the arrest of a suspected terrorist linked to the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the operation was carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, leading to the exposure of an active terror module.

During the operation, police arrested one terrorist and recovered a hand grenade, a sophisticated pistol and live ammunition from his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused was preparing to carry out a major attack on a security establishment. Timely action by the police, officials said, averted a potential terrorist strike.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said the operation was crucial from a security standpoint, especially in the run-up to Republic Day, a period often targeted by terror outfits to execute high-impact attacks. He added that the police had credible inputs suggesting that terror groups were planning a major incident during this sensitive time.

Investigations have further revealed that the accused was acting on the instructions of foreign-based terror handlers. These handlers have been identified as Nishan Jorian, Aadesh Jamarai and Simma Deol, who are allegedly operating from abroad and coordinating terrorist activities in Punjab. Officials said these handlers played a key role in arranging weapons and planning the attack.

An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of law. The accused is currently being interrogated to uncover the wider terror network, including its funding channels, logistics and local associates.

Reiterating Punjab Police’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and organised crime, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that anyone attempting to disturb the peace and security of the state will be dealt with sternly. He added that intelligence mechanisms are being continuously strengthened and all suspicious activities are being closely monitored to ensure lasting peace and harmony in Punjab.
