Moscow: A powerful blast at a factory in Russia’s Ryazan region killed 11 people and injured 130 others, the country’s emergencies ministry confirmed on Saturday.

The explosion occurred on Friday, around 320 km southeast of Moscow. According to officials, rescuers are still searching through the rubble to locate possible survivors.

Ryazan governor Pavel Malkov stated that the incident was triggered by a fire inside one of the workshops at the facility. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, and authorities have not disclosed what the factory produced.

Russian media outlets suggested that the blast may have been caused by gunpowder catching fire. Meanwhile, the region has earlier witnessed Ukrainian drone strikes targeting both military and economic infrastructure.

The investigation into the explosion is underway as emergency crews continue their operations at the site.
