Chandigarh: A spell of rain swept across Chandigarh and nearby regions on Friday morning, offering a sharp dip in temperatures and intensifying the winter chill. The showers, which began early in the day, brought relief from dry conditions but also made the weather noticeably colder.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some pockets, along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at isolated locations. Meteorologists warned that these conditions could further strengthen the cold wave currently affecting the region.
Residents in adjoining areas, including Mohali and Panchkula, also experienced similar weather, with overcast skies and intermittent rain reported from several localities. People stepping out in the morning hours were seen bundled up as the drop in temperature became evident.
The weather office has forecast that the wet conditions may persist, with light rain expected at a few places in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula on Saturday as well. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in view of possible strong winds and reduced visibility during sudden showers.
