Chandigarh: The Chandigarh police on Wednesday apprehended two suspected shooters linked to the recent firing incident at a chemist shop in Sector 32 after a brief encounter near the Sector 39 Grain Market. Both men sustained injuries during the operation and were taken into custody, while a third accomplice was also arrested.

The incident unfolded early in the morning when a team from the Chandigarh Crime Branch noticed a car behaving suspiciously during a routine check. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, its occupants allegedly tried to escape. In the moments that followed, police fired in self-defence, resulting in injuries to two of the suspects.

The injured men, identified as Rahul and Rocky, were shot in the legs and were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 16, where they are undergoing treatment. The third accused, Preet, who was reportedly behind the wheel of the vehicle, was arrested at the scene.

Police officials confirmed that the trio is connected to the firing at Sevak Pharmacy in Sector 32, where gunshots were fired at the shop earlier this week. At the time of the attack, the shop owner’s son, Tanish, was present at the counter and narrowly avoided being hit. He alerted his family soon after, and the shop owner, Jagdish, later approached the police with details of the incident.

Soon after the shooting at the pharmacy, multiple police units, including teams from the Sector 34 Police Station, Crime Branch, Operation Cell and District Crime Branch, reached the location. A forensic team recovered an empty cartridge from the spot. CCTV footage from the area showed two youths arriving on an Activa scooter, firing at the shop and fleeing, which proved crucial in tracking down the suspects.

Authorities said questioning of the arrested individuals is ongoing. Investigators are also examining whether the accused have links to a larger criminal network, including possible connections to gang activity and the involvement of other associates.
