AJNALA (AMRITSAR): Laying the foundation stone of a ₹15 crore Government Degree College in Ajnala on Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann alleged that the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP had collectively looted Punjab for decades, weakening its institutions and forcing generations of youth to seek opportunities abroad. He said the new college, to be named after Baba Ghamchuk Ji Maharaj, reflects the Aam Aadmi Party government’s commitment to rebuilding “Rangla Punjab” through education, employment and public participation.

The Chief Minister said the co-educational college, coming up over 15 acres in the border village of Bikraur, will benefit students from around 50 nearby villages and is expected to have more than 2,000 enrollments in the coming years. The institution will offer courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Skills, ensuring modern and quality education close to home, especially for girls. He also announced free education for students from the village that donated land for the project.

Addressing the gathering, CM Mann urged people to remain cautious of opportunistic politics, stating that the opposition lacks any vision for Punjab’s welfare. He highlighted that his government has provided over 63,000 merit-based government jobs and is accelerating development through new clinics, schools and colleges. Senior AAP leaders and ministers present termed the project a historic step towards empowering youth in Punjab’s sensitive border region.
