Gen Z Backing BJP’s Development Agenda, Says PM Narendra Modi at Bengal Rally

Malda, West Bengal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India’s younger generation is increasingly aligning with the BJP’s vision of development, pointing to the party’s decisive performance in the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections as evidence of growing youth support.

Addressing a public gathering in Malda ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Prime Minister said the BJP’s success in Mumbai’s civic polls reflected the trust of first-time and young voters in the party’s governance model. Expressing confidence about the upcoming Bengal polls, he said the same sentiment would soon be visible in the state.

Switching to Bengali during his speech, Modi delivered a sharp message aimed at the ruling Trinamool Congress, declaring, “Ei sarkar palano dorkaar,” signalling that a change in government was necessary for the state’s progress.

The Prime Minister accused the Mamata Banerjee-led administration of misusing public funds and obstructing the flow of central welfare assistance meant for Bengal’s residents. According to him, meaningful development would only reach the state after the Trinamool is voted out of power.

Raising concerns over border security, Modi alleged that the state government was turning a blind eye to illegal infiltration. He said strict action against such activities would be a priority if the BJP formed the government in Bengal.

He also sought to reassure the Matua community and other refugees who fled persecution in neighbouring countries, stating that they were protected under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and had no reason to fear.

With the Assembly elections just months away, Modi’s remarks signalled an aggressive campaign push by the BJP, focusing on governance, national security, and youth participation as key themes in its bid to expand its footprint in West Bengal.
