New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to Indian Army personnel on the occasion of Army Day, praising them for their unwavering dedication and service to the nation. He described the Army as a pillar of strength that continues to protect the country under the most demanding circumstances.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister said the commitment shown by soldiers, often in difficult and hostile environments, reflects a deep sense of duty and selflessness. He noted that their discipline and determination instil a feeling of security and pride among citizens across the country.
The Prime Minister also paid homage to those who lost their lives while serving the nation, stating that India remembers their sacrifice with profound respect and gratitude.
Army Day is marked every year on January 15 to commemorate a historic moment in 1949, when Field Marshal K M Cariappa assumed charge as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Army, succeeding British officer General Sir F R R Bucher. The day serves as a reminder of the Army’s legacy and its continued role in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
Across the nation, the occasion was observed with tributes and ceremonies recognising the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of Army personnel, both past and present.
