Faridkot: On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unfurled the national tricolor in Faridkot and took salute from the parade, paying tribute to the state’s historic contributions to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized the integral role of Punjab in India’s development, stating that the country cannot progress without the growth of its western frontier. “We had to struggle for freedom for a long time, drawing inspiration from our Gurus and the spirit of martyrdom. Remarkably, 80 percent of those who laid down their lives for the nation hailed from Punjab,” he said.
Highlighting Punjab’s rich martial heritage, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said, “This land has produced countless warriors who have defended the nation, yet Punjab has also endured immense hardships, especially during the partition. The freedom we cherish today has come at a high cost, and even after independence, our state has faced numerous challenges.”
The Chief Minister’s speech paid homage to the sacrifices of Punjabi freedom fighters while reinforcing the state government’s commitment to accelerating development and addressing the ongoing needs of its citizens.
The Independence Day celebrations in Faridkot included a ceremonial parade, cultural programs, and a display of discipline by local security forces, reflecting both the pride and resilience of Punjab.
