Jalandhar: A night-duty watchman posted at the SDM (Jalandhar-1) office, housed within the Deputy Commissioner’s complex, was allegedly abducted and violently attacked by two unidentified youths, leaving him critically injured, officials and union representatives said.
The victim, identified as Anand Kishore, was reportedly on duty when the incident occurred. According to the DC Office Class Four Employees Union, two young men approached him late at night and misled him by claiming that his son had met with an accident. Trusting their claim, Kishore accompanied them, after which he was taken away forcibly.
Union president Amarjit Singh said the assailants drove Kishore to an isolated spot near the Chaheru bridge, where he was brutally beaten. After the assault, the attackers allegedly abandoned him at the location and fled. Kishore is believed to have remained unconscious at the spot throughout the night.
The injured watchman was discovered the following morning by a passerby, who alerted his family. He was initially rushed to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. However, since the place of occurrence falls under the Phagwara police jurisdiction, Kishore was later referred to the Civil Hospital in Phagwara for further treatment.
Condemning the incident, Amarjit Singh described the attack on an employee while on duty as a grave matter and called for swift police action. He urged the administration to identify and arrest the culprits at the earliest and ensure strict punishment to prevent such incidents in the future.
Several employees, including Prabhjot, Vishal Gill, Sunita, Prem Lata and Seema, were present when the union raised the issue, expressing concern over workplace safety and demanding stronger security measures for staff working night shifts.
Police officials said an investigation has been initiated and efforts are underway to trace the accused.
