Chandigarh: Former Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General Harcharan Singh Bhullar has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking regular bail in a bribery case. The high court is likely to take up the petition for hearing next week.

Bhullar is currently lodged in Chandigarh’s Central Jail in connection with the bribery case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was arrested on October 17, 2025, and has remained in judicial custody since then. After a lower court rejected his bail plea, the former senior police officer decided to move the high court for relief.

In his petition, Bhullar has argued that the chargesheet in the case was filed on December 13, 2025, and the investigation has been completed. He further submitted that since he has already been suspended from service, there is no possibility of him influencing witnesses or interfering with the trial. On these grounds, he has sought bail from the high court.

It is noteworthy that two separate cases have been registered against Bhullar — one related to bribery and another pertaining to possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. While he has already been granted bail by a lower court in the disproportionate assets case, his bail plea in the bribery matter was rejected, leading to his continued incarceration.

The high court’s decision on Bhullar’s latest bail plea is awaited and is expected to determine whether he will be granted relief in the bribery case.
