Chandigarh: In a major step to streamline recruitment for senior administrative posts, the Haryana Government has revised the syllabus for the Haryana Civil Service (Executive Branch) and Allied Services examinations. The updated syllabus has been notified through an Extraordinary Gazette, with the notification issued by Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi. The move aims to bring more clarity, uniformity and relevance to the examination process in line with contemporary administrative requirements.

Under the revised structure, the Preliminary Examination will comprise two objective-type papers of 200 marks each. Paper I (General Studies) will cover general science, current national and international affairs, Indian history, geography, polity, economy, culture, mental ability, and Haryana-specific topics related to its economy, society, culture and language. Paper II, the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), will assess comprehension, reasoning, decision-making, problem-solving, basic numeracy and data interpretation skills at the Class X level.

The Main Written Examination has been restructured into six descriptive papers of 100 marks each, totaling 600 marks, with the removal of optional subjects and the introduction of four General Studies papers. These include English and Hindi (with essays), along with General Studies-I to IV covering history, geography, society, governance, economy, science and technology, environment, internal security, and ethics, integrity and aptitude. The revised syllabus places strong emphasis on analytical ability, ethical values, governance, and Haryana-related issues, aiming to select well-rounded and capable administrators.
