Chandigarh: Former Chabbewal village sarpanch and Aam Aadmi Party leader Harminder Singh Sandhu formally joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday, marking a significant political shift in the Chabbewal Assembly constituency.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal welcomed Sandhu into the party, describing him as a dynamic leader with strong roots at the grassroots level. Following his induction, Sandhu was appointed Halka In-Charge of the Chabbewal Assembly segment on the recommendation of the district unit.
Sandhu had contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections from Chabbewal on an AAP ticket and secured close to 40,000 votes, establishing himself as a prominent political figure in the region. His entry into the SAD is being seen as a move that could strengthen the party’s organisational presence in the constituency.
Expressing confidence in Sandhu’s capabilities, Badal said the new entrant would play a key role in energising the party cadre and expanding the Shiromani Akali Dal’s support base in Chabbewal and nearby areas.
