New Delhi— Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor on Thursday assumed charge as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force, marking a key leadership transition at the force’s headquarters in New Delhi.

Before taking up the new assignment, Air Marshal Kapoor served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command, where he oversaw critical operational responsibilities. He succeeds Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, who superannuated on Wednesday after completing nearly four decades of distinguished service to the nation.

Confirming the development, the Indian Air Force said Air Marshal Kapoor formally took over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff on January 1, 2026. Commissioned into the Flying Branch of the IAF in December 1986, he brings with him extensive operational and command experience, having flown a wide range of fighter and trainer aircraft during his career.

The assumption of charge ceremony was held at Vayu Bhawan, where Air Marshal Kapoor was presented a Guard of Honour. As part of the ceremonial proceedings, he also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, paying homage to the fallen heroes of the armed forces.

The appointment comes at a time when the Indian Air Force continues to focus on operational preparedness, modernization, and strategic capability enhancement amid evolving security challenges.
