CALIFORNIA/HYDERABAD – The pursuit of the American dream ended in heartbreak for two families in Telangana, as two young women lost their lives in a fatal automobile accident in California. The victims, identified as Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana, both 24, were reportedly returning from a holiday trip with friends when the incident occurred.
Lives Cut Short
Meghana, known to loved ones as “Chikki,” and Bhavana shared a close bond as roommates in California. Both had recently achieved a significant academic milestone by completing their Master’s degrees and were in the process of transitioning into the workforce. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the Indian student community in the US and their hometowns back in India.
Families Devastated
The tragedy has deeply impacted the victims’ families in Telangana. Meghana was the daughter of Nageshwara Rao, who operates a Mee-Seva centre in Garla. Bhavana hailed from Mulkanoor village, where her father serves as the Deputy Sarpanch.
Investigation and Repatriation Efforts
Local law enforcement in California has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, frantic efforts are underway to repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased to India for final rites.
To assist with the significant financial burden of transporting the bodies, a GoFundMe campaign has been established for Meghana’s family. The fundraising appeal emphasizes the urgent need for community support, stating that any contribution will help provide a “dignified farewell” for the young graduate.
