Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the theft of expensive injections worth nearly ₹90 lakh from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). In a dramatic twist, the arrests were made within the PGI premises itself after the theft was flagged by the hospital’s own security staff.

Police sources revealed that the accused had allegedly stolen a rare, life-saving injection that costs several lakhs of rupees per vial. The stolen medicine has been recovered from their possession. Initial interrogation has reportedly led to startling revelations, with investigators suspecting that more individuals could be linked to the high-value theft.

Officers have also seized a vehicle, registered in Punjab, which was allegedly used in the operation. Its role in the crime is now under detailed examination. The incident has raised serious concerns over PGIMER’s security protocols, particularly regarding the storage and handling of costly medical supplies.

Authorities at PGIMER are expected to make an official statement soon, while police continue their investigation to uncover the full extent of the theft and any wider network involved.
