Phagwara (Punjab): A shocking incident was reported from Mandali village near Phagwara, where a farm owner died following an alleged assault by a migrant labourer employed for agricultural work, police said on Sunday.

According to the victim’s wife, Palvinder Kaur, the migrant worker, who had been living at their residence, allegedly started abusing her husband, Davinder Singh. When Davinder Singh objected to the abusive behaviour, the labourer reportedly became aggressive and assaulted him, striking him with an object.

Davinder Singh sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

A doctor on emergency duty at the Civil Hospital said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination. The police have been informed, and a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Police officials said statements are being recorded and appropriate legal action will be taken once the post-mortem report is received.
