Ferozepur: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Ferozepur Range has arrested two alleged drug traffickers and recovered over three kilograms of heroin, marking another major success in Punjab’s intensified campaign against narcotics.
Officials said the operation led to the seizure of 3.132 kg of heroin and the detention of two youths from the Jalalabad region of Fazilka district. The accused were identified as 20-year-old Arshdeep Singh, also known as Arsh, from Ladhuwala Hittar village, and 19-year-old Sukhchain Singh of Hazara Ram Singh Wala.
The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the ANTF team during an ongoing intelligence-led drive to dismantle smuggling networks operating in the border belt. A case has been registered at the ANTF police station in Ferozepur under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigators disclosed that Arshdeep Singh is not new to police records and is already wanted in another high-value drug case registered in SAS Nagar last month, in which more than four kilograms of heroin were recovered. Police are now probing the duo’s contacts to identify their suppliers as well as possible recipients of the contraband.
With this latest recovery, total heroin seizures by the ANTF Ferozepur Range in 2025 have crossed the 118 kg mark, reflecting the scale of enforcement this year. Official figures indicate that the unit has registered 68 narcotics-related cases so far and taken 125 individuals into custody.
In addition to heroin, the task force has confiscated over six kilograms of opium, nearly 34,000 intoxicating tablets, and seized 37 vehicles allegedly used to transport drugs. Authorities have also recovered more than ₹21 lakh suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
Senior officials said the focus now remains on dismantling the financial and logistical backbone of organised smuggling rings. “Our objective is not limited to arrests alone; we are targeting entire networks involved in the drug trade,” said Gurinderbir Singh, Assistant Inspector General of Police, ANTF.
The Punjab Police has reiterated that sustained surveillance and coordinated operations will continue across vulnerable districts to curb the spread of narcotics and disrupt cross-border supply chains.
