Hyderabad: A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband following a violent argument at their residence in the Nallakunta area of Hyderabad, in a horrifying incident witnessed by their children, police said.
The accused, identified as Venkatesh, is alleged to have attacked his wife Triveni after a heated altercation at home. According to police, he first assaulted her, then poured petrol on her body and set her ablaze. When their daughter attempted to intervene and rescue her mother, Venkatesh allegedly pushed the child into the fire as well before fleeing the scene.
Hearing desperate screams, neighbours rushed to the house and shifted both Triveni and her daughter to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Triveni dead on arrival, while the daughter survived with minor burn injuries.
Police said the couple had a love marriage and were parents to two children. Venkatesh, a native of Huzurabad in Nalgonda district, allegedly harboured long-standing suspicions about his wife’s character and frequently subjected her to harassment, leading to repeated domestic disputes.
Unable to endure the abuse, Triveni had recently moved to her parents’ house. She returned only after her husband allegedly promised to change his behaviour. However, within days of her return, the fatal incident occurred.
The Nallakunta police arrested Venkatesh within 12 hours of the crime. A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is ongoing.
