Police Encounter Near Nurpur in Jalandhar Leaves One Gang Member Injured, Two Arrested

Jalandhar: One suspected gangster was injured while two others were arrested following a police encounter near Nurpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar, officials said on Thursday.

According to the police, the encounter took place when a police team reached the area to apprehend two suspects linked to a criminal gang. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team without provocation. In retaliation, the police fired back, leading to an exchange of around 10 to 11 rounds.

During the gunfight, both suspects sustained bullet injuries. The police subsequently overpowered them and took them into custody. The injured suspect was immediately shifted to a civil hospital for treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable.

Senior police officials said the accused were asked to surrender, but instead of complying, they resorted to firing at the police. In the retaliatory action, one of the suspects was injured, following which both were arrested.

The police recovered two pistols from the possession of the accused. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested suspects are associated with the Dadevala and Harry gangs. Officials also stated that the accused were wanted in connection with the Batala firing case, in which a businessman was shot at, prompting an intensified search operation by the police.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of their involvement in other criminal activities.
