Panipat: A joint operation by the Panipat CIA-1 and the Special Task Force (STF) from Sonepat led to the arrest of four individuals after a police encounter in Panipat’s Israna area. The accused were involved in an extortion case and had been on the run since the crime.
According to Panipat Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupender Singh, the suspects had been demanding a sum of ₹2.5 crore from local businessman Yashpal Garg. The extortion threat, made in the name of the notorious Bambiha gang, occurred on December 18. Following the complaint, multiple police teams were formed to track down the culprits.
The encounter unfolded when police tracked the suspects to Israna. During the exchange of fire, one of the accused, identified as Parmeet, was shot in the leg and sustained injuries. Parmeet was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. The other three individuals—Devender, Sahil, and Aman—were arrested on the spot. All four are residents of Shaharmalpur village in Panipat district.
Police recovered three firearms from the accused, including two foreign-made pistols and one country-made pistol. Authorities are currently questioning the suspects in connection with the extortion case, while investigations continue into their criminal activities.
SP Bhupender Singh praised the swift action by the joint task force, stating that this arrest would help curb the growing threat of organized crime in the region.
