Chandigarh: Dense fog continued to blanket several districts of Punjab, significantly reducing visibility and disrupting daily life. In some areas, visibility dropped to as low as 50 metres, and in a few places, even lower. The fog has affected both air and rail services across the state.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for very dense fog in Punjab. In addition, the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for the entire state. Rain is also likely in parts of Punjab till December 22.

Meanwhile, temperatures have started falling rapidly during both day and night. Over the past 24 hours, the state’s minimum temperature has dropped by 1.2 degrees Celsius, intensifying the cold conditions further.

According to the weather department, light rainfall is expected at isolated places in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts. There is also a possibility of dense fog at some locations in Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and Mohali.

Authorities have advised people to remain cautious while travelling, especially during early morning and late night hours, due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
