Amritsar: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have arrested three individuals linked to an international drug smuggling network, recovering 4.5 kilograms of heroin and a firearm in the operation, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav announced.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were coordinating with a foreign-based handler via social media, receiving instructions to transport and distribute consignments of heroin and illegal arms across multiple locations in the state.
An FIR has been registered at PS Gate Hakima, Amritsar, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Law enforcement officials confirmed that further inquiries are ongoing to identify additional links and accomplices in the network.
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized Punjab Police’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and dismantling organized narcotics networks, stating that swift action and continuous vigilance remain a top priority in curbing illegal drug and arms operations across the state.
Authorities urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to help law enforcement disrupt illicit supply chains and ensure public safety.
