Rewa (Madhya Pradesh): Ram Janmabhoomi movement leader and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Ram Vilas Vedanti died of a heart attack on Monday in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. He was 67.
Vedanti had been admitted to the Superspecialty Hospital attached to Shyam Shah Medical College on Sunday morning after his health deteriorated. Hospital authorities said he had been unwell for some time and was suffering from severe complications.
Superspecialty Hospital Superintendent Akshay Srivastava said Vedanti was diagnosed with septicemia, which had spread extensively in his body. His blood pressure dropped sharply and his kidneys stopped functioning. He suffered a heart attack late Sunday night and was put on ventilator support, but he passed away on Monday morning.
Following the heart attack, efforts were made to shift him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, via air ambulance. However, the transfer could not be carried out due to poor visibility, hospital officials said.
Vedanti was the executive president of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and played a prominent role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He had earlier been elected to the Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh and Machhali Shahar constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
At the time of his illness, Vedanti was in Rewa district to narrate ‘Katha Bhathwa’ at Lalgaon. He was born on October 7, 1958, in Gudhwa village of Rewa.
His disciple, Chhote Das Maharaj, said that Vedanti’s last rites would be performed in Ayodhya.
