Pathankot/Dunera: Continuous heavy rainfall in the region has caused a major portion of the Pathankot–Chamba National Highway to give way near Dunera Kui. Around 150 feet of the road caved in, forcing authorities to halt the movement of large vehicles for safety reasons.

Rain has been lashing several parts of Punjab for the past two days. On Monday, light to moderate showers were recorded across multiple districts, and the wet spell has continued into today.

According to data from the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, rainfall measured 3.2 mm in Chandigarh, 0.5 mm in Amritsar, 2.4 mm in Patiala, 27.5 mm in Pathankot, 10.8 mm in Rupnagar, and 9.0 mm in Nawanshahr.

Despite the rain, maximum daytime temperatures hovered between 29°C and 30°C in most districts. Meteorologists expect clear skies on Tuesday, but warn that heavy rainfall could return between August 13 and 15 in several parts of the state. Weather conditions are predicted to stabilise from August 16 onwards.

Local authorities have urged motorists, particularly those operating heavy vehicles, to avoid the affected highway stretch until repair and restoration work is completed.
