Bathinda: The Bathinda court on Monday accepted a plea seeking exemption from personal appearance filed on behalf of Bollywood actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case linked to her remarks on the farmers’ protest. Following the acceptance of the application, the court adjourned the matter to January 5, 2026.

The defamation case, filed by Bebe Mahinder Kaur of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district, relates to social media comments allegedly made by Ranaut during the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s farm laws. The complainant has accused the actor-politician of making defamatory remarks suggesting that women participated in protests in return for money.

Advocate Raghubir Singh Behniwal, representing the complainant, said Ranaut’s counsel had moved an application seeking exemption from appearance, which was allowed by the court. He added that witnesses would be produced before the next date of hearing and arguments would also be advanced on the exemption-related aspects.

The case remains under judicial consideration and is scheduled for further hearing on January 5, 2026.
