New Delhi— Suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Friday levelled serious allegations against the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, accusing it of protecting liquor and mining mafias and sought security, warning that any threat to her life would be the Chief Minister’s responsibility.

In a post on X, Sidhu questioned the state government’s silence on issues she claimed to have repeatedly flagged and expressed concern over what she described as a worsening law-and-order situation in Punjab. She also shared a detailed letter addressed to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, in which she alleged the existence of what she termed the “biggest land scandal” in the state’s history.

Sidhu claimed that large tracts of land in the ecologically sensitive Shivalik belt, including protected forest areas, were being illegally occupied and later regularised under the current regime. According to her allegations, land sharks had acquired parcels ranging from one acre to as much as 10,000 acres at throwaway prices and were now being granted legal protection.

Referring to her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu’s tenure as Punjab’s Local Bodies Minister, she said he had refused to clear files linked to such matters and had instead ordered an inquiry, indicating that the issues were known even earlier but had not been addressed decisively.

Raising alarm over public safety, Sidhu alleged that Punjab was witnessing a surge in crime, misuse of weapons and growing fear among citizens, forcing many to consider leaving the state. She asserted that the prevailing atmosphere had eroded public confidence in governance and law enforcement.

Sidhu urged the Governor to convene an urgent special session of the Punjab Assembly to deliberate on key concerns, including protecting institutional autonomy and issues related to honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. She also appealed for immediate intervention to restore public trust and ensure accountability within the system.
