Goa: In a crackdown on illegal nightclubs following the Arpora fire tragedy, authorities on Thursday sealed ‘Goya The Night Club’ in Vagator, North Goa, stating that it was built on agricultural land.

The action was carried out under an order from the mamlatdar of Bardez taluka, a senior official said. The nightclub had been constructed on farmland without converting the land to commercial use.

While the establishment has been sealed, the owner has been given seven days to respond to the notice. Members of the nightclub’s management were unavailable for comment.

The move comes after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant directed the administration to take strict action against nightclubs operating illegally or in violation of safety regulations, following the blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane club in Arpora that claimed 25 lives on Saturday night.
