Tinsukia (Assam): At least 14 people from Assam’s Tinsukia district have died and seven others are missing after the truck they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said on Thursday. The accident occurred on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district earlier this week, according to Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul.

Paul said the administration received information about the tragedy around 11 am. He said they immediately contacted the district commissioners of Anjaw and Tezu, who confirmed that rescue teams had recovered 14 bodies and found one survivor. Search efforts are underway to trace the seven missing passengers.

A team of officials from Tinsukia, including a circle officer and police personnel, has been sent to Arunachal Pradesh to gather more details. The team has reached Tezu and further information is expected within a few hours, the Deputy Commissioner added.
