New Delhi— India’s batting stalwarts made headlines in the latest ICC ODI rankings, with Rohit Sharma maintaining his top spot while Virat Kohli surged to second place following a spectacular performance against South Africa. The former captain, who last held the No. 1 ranking in April 2021 before being overtaken by Pakistan’s Babar Azam, came close to reclaiming the top position after scoring 302 runs in the three-match series.

Kohli’s unbeaten 65 in the final ODI at Visakhapatnam earned him the Player of the Series award and moved him within eight rating points of Rohit, who scored 146 runs across the series to retain his position.

Shubman Gill held steady at No. 5 despite missing the series, while stand-in captain KL Rahul climbed two spots to No. 12. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav jumped three positions to No. 3 in the ODI rankings.

South African players also improved their rankings, with Quinton de Kock at No. 13, Aiden Markram at No. 25, and Temba Bavuma at No. 37.

In T20Is, Axar Patel rose to 13th, Arshdeep Singh to 20th, and Jasprit Bumrah to 25th after India’s dominant 101-run victory in Cuttack. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained India’s highest-ranked Test batter at No. 8, while Gill and Rishabh Pant moved up to No. 11 and No. 13.

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc jumped three places to third in the Test rankings after claiming 18 wickets in the first two Ashes Tests, winning consecutive Player of the Match awards. Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the Test bowling charts, while Indian bowlers Mohammad Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav each gained one spot. England’s Harry Brook slipped to fourth in Test batting rankings, allowing Kane Williamson and Steve Smith to move up behind top-ranked Joe Root.
