Sagar, Madhya Pradesh: Four members of a bomb detection and disposal squad from Morena were killed early Wednesday when their official vehicle crashed into a container truck on National Highway 44. Another constable sustained critical injuries in the incident, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 4 a.m. on the stretch of highway between Bandri and Malthone. According to Bandri police station in-charge Sumer Jagat, the police vehicle struck a container truck that had been parked improperly on the wrong side of the road. The force of the impact left the vehicle mangled beyond recognition.

Victims Identified

The four personnel who died on the spot were identified as constables Pradhuman Dixit and Aman Kaurav, vehicle driver Paramlal Tomar — all from Morena — and dog handler Vinod Sharma, a resident of Bhind. Another team member, constable Rajiv Chauhan, was rushed to Bansal Hospital in Bhopal with severe injuries. Doctors have described his condition as critical.

A service dog travelling with the team survived the crash unharmed, police said.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation

Local authorities and police teams reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the crash and launched rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary findings suggest the driver of the police vehicle may have lost control before the collision, though officers noted that the truck’s improper parking also contributed to the deadly impact. A case has been registered, and police are searching for the truck driver, who fled the spot.

The accident has sparked renewed concerns over the dangers posed by vehicles parked illegally along major highways, particularly during pre-dawn hours when visibility is low.
