Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has undertaken several landmark initiatives during its tenure, focusing on rural areas, which are sure to have a direct impact on the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. The government claims that these elections will be fought on a development agenda, and the rural population has not only accepted the changes made by the AAP government but has also pledged their support.

Unprecedented Infrastructure Improvements The government has given top priority to rural connectivity, successfully completing a 44,920-kilometer link road project. This road network has become the backbone of the rural economy, reducing both the time and cost for farmers to transport their produce to markets. Improved roads are now connecting villages to the mainstream, which is essential for access to emergency services and promoting socio-economic activities.

Youth empowerment and investment in education have been a major achievement of the AAP government, opening the doors of government jobs to young people. Over 60,000 government jobs have been created so far, including a significant number for youth from rural backgrounds. This initiative has helped reduce unemployment and bring economic stability to villages. Concurrently, village schools have been developed as Schools of Eminence. This improvement in the quality of education ensures that rural students have equal opportunities as urban students, preparing them for higher education and employment.

Free healthcare at every doorstep: The AAP government has revolutionized the healthcare sector. The establishment of Mohalla Clinics has enabled people to access free diagnostics and medicines close to their homes. The rural population, which previously relied on distant cities for healthcare services, is now highly satisfied with this convenient and free treatment. The popularization of healthcare services is a major factor that has led to people openly praising this initiative of the government.

The “war” against drug addiction and the revival of sports culture has created a positive wave in rural communities. Due to the government’s efforts, nearly 50% of villages have become drug-free, a major social achievement. Furthermore, to channel youth in the right direction and keep them away from addiction, 3,100 magnificent playgrounds are being built across Punjab. These playgrounds will not only promote physical and mental health for young people but will also give rise to a new sports culture in the villages.

Electoral Equations Based on Development All these development works are directly impacting the lives of rural residents. There is no doubt that these development works will have a major impact in the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. In these local-level elections, voters will support candidates and parties that have brought tangible and positive change to their lives. Riding on the back of development, the Aam Aadmi Party is expected to win these elections with a large lead, indicating that the rural people of Punjab have accepted the government’s “politics of work.”
