New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday honored the supreme sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, during a meeting of the NDA parliamentary party in the national capital.

Modi urged lawmakers to raise awareness about the Sahibzadas’ unwavering commitment to their faith, which they maintained despite facing death at the hands of the Mughal ruler’s forces. The Prime Minister also highlighted Vir Bal Diwas, observed on December 26, as a day to commemorate their martyrdom.

“Let the courage and conviction of the Sahibzadas inspire all of us,” Modi said, referring to the 1704 incident when the young sons of the tenth Sikh Guru were bricked alive in Sirhind by Wazir Khan after refusing to convert to Islam. The government had officially declared December 26 as Vir Bal Diwas in 2022.

Shifting focus to governance, Modi emphasized the importance of connecting with citizens and ensuring that government policies make life easier for the common man, rather than creating obstacles. He underscored that regulations are intended to facilitate citizens’ daily lives, not to harass them.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing disruptions in the aviation sector, particularly following IndiGo’s repeated flight cancellations, which prompted regulatory action and schedule reductions. Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and protecting public interests.

Lawmakers at the meeting were urged to engage actively with the people and implement reforms that simplify processes, with Modi stressing that government work must focus on citizen convenience and welfare.
