Kiranjot Kaur Slams Sikh Groups Backing Police Probe Into Missing Saroops Case

Chandigarh: Senior SGPC member and noted Panthic voice Bibi Kiranjot Kaur has sharply criticized Sikhs who are supporting the police investigation into the case of 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, calling the probe politically motivated and an unwarranted intrusion into Sikh religious matters.

Kiranjot Kaur said that neither the SGPC nor the commission constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib carried out a fully serious or comprehensive inquiry, but maintained with certainty that no beadbi took place. She admitted there had been accounting lapses but stated that any sacrilege would have become evident long ago if it had occurred.

She accused the Punjab Government of exploiting a sensitive religious issue by imposing Sections 295 and 295-A on the SGPC. Calling it “pure politics,” she questioned the purpose of the ongoing police action.

“What do the police expect to uncover? Will they go to every place where prakash is performed and inspect every bir? Will non-Sikh officers lecture the SGPC on maryada?” she asked.

Kiranjot Kaur also targeted Sikhs who have backed the state’s role in the investigation, saying they have “handed over their paggs to the government,” raising doubts about their commitment to Sikh values.

She added that the SGPC president could have avoided the current controversy if the matter had been handled responsibly from the start. She further alleged that several SGPC employees were wrongly blamed and not given a fair chance to defend themselves.
