Sidhu’s Wife Clarifies Remarks Amid Political Row Over ₹500-Crore CM Claim

Chandigarh: The political debate over an alleged ₹500-crore requirement for becoming Chief Minister has intensified, prompting former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife, Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, to issue a clarification. She said her earlier remarks were distorted and presented in a misleading manner.

In a post on social media, Dr. Sidhu expressed surprise over the controversy, stating that her simple statement had been twisted. She said she only mentioned that the Congress party had never demanded anything from her or her family.

Her clarification came two days after she met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh. Following the meeting, she told the media that Navjot Singh Sidhu would actively participate in politics only if the Congress projected him as the chief ministerial face. She added that he remains connected to the Congress as well as to Priyanka Gandhi, but she does not believe he will be allowed to progress because several leaders have already held the top post and are busy working against the party’s interests.

When asked whether any party had ever demanded money from her, especially in reference to her “₹500-crore” remark, she denied it. She clarified that no one had asked her for money, but claimed that only those who can “offer a ₹500-crore briefcase” become Chief Minister.
