Goa: The Goa government has intensified its enforcement measures against the Romeo Lane hospitality group following a catastrophic fire that left 25 people dead at one of its nightclubs over the weekend. The tragedy, which unfolded at the Arpora-based outlet “Birch by Romeo Lane,” has sparked a sweeping crackdown across the district.

Officials confirmed that two additional establishments linked to the same chain—one at Vagator and another in Assagao—were sealed on Monday. Authorities stated that both properties were already under dispute, prompting swift administrative action in the wake of the disaster.

The fatal blaze, which primarily killed staff members working at the Arpora venue, is believed to have been triggered by unauthorized fireworks during operations. Investigators also revealed that the nightclub did not possess a mandatory No Objection Certificate from the fire department, raising serious concerns about compliance and safety lapses.

Four senior staffers — chief general manager Rajiv Modak, general manager Vivek Singh, bar manager Rajiv Singhania, and gate manager Riyanshu Thakur — have been taken into custody by Anjuna police as part of the widening probe.

Meanwhile, a Goa police team has travelled to Delhi to track down the club chain’s promoters, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who are facing an FIR in connection with the incident. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that both individuals will be arrested once located, emphasizing that accountability will be ensured.

As the investigation deepens, the state government has vowed stringent action against establishments flouting safety norms, stressing that such negligence cannot be allowed to jeopardize lives again.
