Indian Railways to Operate 89 Special Trains Amid Winter Travel Rush and Flight Disruptions

New Delhi: To manage the surge in passenger demand during the winter travel season and following widespread flight cancellations, Indian Railways has announced 89 special train services over the next three days. These services, covering more than 100 trips, will operate across multiple railway zones to ensure smooth connectivity and reduce travel disruptions.

Central Railway will run 14 special services, including Pune-Bengaluru-Pune (01413/01414) on 6 and 7 December, Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin-Pune (01409/01410) on 7 and 9 December, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Hazrat Nizamuddin-CSMT (01077/01078) on 6 and 7 December. Other routes include Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Madgaon-LTT, LTT-Lucknow-LTT, Nagpur-CSMT-Nagpur, Gorakhpur-LTT-Gorakhpur, and Bilaspur-LTT-Bilaspur.

South Eastern Railway has also scheduled special trains to accommodate passengers affected by flight cancellations. Key services include Santragachi-Yelahanka-Santragachi (08073/08074) departing on 7 and 9 December, Howrah-CSMT-Howrah Special (02870/02869) departing on 6 and 8 December, and Cherlapalli-Shalimar-Cherlapalli (07148/07149) on 6 and 8 December.

South Central Railway will operate three special trains starting 6 December, connecting Cherlapalli-Shalimar, Secunderabad-Chennai Egmore, and Hyderabad-Mumbai LTT. Eastern Railway is running additional trains between Howrah, Sealdah, and major destinations, including Howrah-New Delhi-Howrah (03009/03010) and Sealdah-LTT-Sealdah (03127/03128).

Western Railway will add seven special trains, including Mumbai Central-Bhiwani Superfast Special (09001/09002) and Mumbai Central-Shakur Basti Superfast Special (09003/09004), with multiple trips scheduled between 6 and 31 December. Bandra Terminus-Durgapura Superfast Special (09730/09729) will also operate with various classes including First AC, AC 2 Tier, AC 3 Tier, Sleeper, and General Second Class.

Additional services from Gorakhpur and Bihar include Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal-Gorakhpur (05591/05592) on 7–9 December, Gorakhpur-LTT-Gorakhpur (05587/05588), Patna-Anand Vihar Terminal-Patna (02309/02310) from 6–9 December, and Darbhanga-Anand Vihar Terminal-Darbhanga (05563/05564) on 7 and 9 December.

North Western Railway and North Central Railway will run one-trip specials, including Hisar-Khadki-Hisar (04725/04726) and Prayagraj-New Delhi-Prayagraj (02417/02418, 02275/02276) on select dates. Northern Railway will operate New Delhi-Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur Vande Bharat (02439/02440), New Delhi-Mumbai Central (04002/04001), and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central (04080) on 6 and 7 December.

A special service between Durg and Hazrat Nizamuddin (08760/08761) will also run on 7 and 8 December. With these additional trains, Indian Railways aims to ease travel pressure and provide timely alternatives for passengers during the busy winter period.
