Bengaluru: A 38-year-old man died after jumping in front of a moving metro at Kengeri station on Friday morning, briefly disrupting services on the Purple Line. The incident occurred around 8:15 am and the deceased was identified as Shantagoud Policepatil. Eyewitnesses said the man appeared to have timed his jump with the arrival of the train, leaving no chance for the operator to react. He died on the spot due to severe injuries.

According to sources, the paramedical team immediately reached the site and cleared the body from the tracks to restore operations. Services on the Purple Line were suspended between Mysore Road and Challaghatta for a short period. Train movement resumed after safety checks, and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited announced that normal services were restored by 9:40 am. In a post on X, the BMRCL said operations across the entire corridor were functioning as per schedule.

Police have launched an investigation to determine what led the man to take the extreme step. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

The tragedy comes days after another suspected suicide involving a tech professional in Nallurhalli. The deceased, Murali, had been supervising construction on his property when he was found dead on the second floor of the building. His mother alleged that he faced continuous harassment from neighbours over a property dispute and claimed they had demanded ₹20 lakh from him. Police are probing the allegations.
